The Sea Explorers’ Institute (SEI) has brought out a pictorial presentation  titled as “ Rediscovering The Ganga “ which is the latest publication of the Institute.  The work has been partially by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Govt. of India.

ANNUAL REPORT ON THE ACTIVITIES OF THE   INSTITUTE

       FOR THE   FINANCIAL YEAR 2013-14

 

The   multidimensional  activities carried out  during the financial year 2013-14  under the financial support of  the  Ministry of Youth Affairs &  Sports, Government of India  are  as follows :-

 

A.   ADVENTURE   TRAINING   PROGRAMMES :

     i)  Seamanship &  Navigation  Training

       The training course is the first  requisite   to   train   students  who would  like  to undertake  river  and sea  expedition.  It  aims  at  training the youth  in  practical   seamanship, basic chart work, and handling of  boats under sail  and  oars in river and  sea. During the period under  report, this 4 month  training has been  imparted to  the trainees in  2  batches, as follows :-

  •  Batch No. 51  -   The training was held from  April ‘13 to July ‘13       ( The number of  trainees was  25)
  • Batch No. 52  -   The training  was  held  from August  ‘13 to November ‘13   ( The  intake of trainees was 25)

 Voyages :

            Voyages are part and parcel of  the training.  This is a  practical  training where the students  are  taken out in river. The trainees of  Batch No. 51  and  52  of  Seamanship  Training Course  completed  total 4 number of voyages, varying from

             2 days to 6 days during April  to July, 2013  and from August  to November, 2013. (The  total number of days for each batch was  15  days.)

               They completed  the total number  of  voyages  as detailed below  :

A . ii)   Sea /Marine Awareness Training

 

             The object of  the course  is  to  generate  awareness  about  the  sea and  water-borne activities,   among the school, college &  university students.   The students learn about the various aspects  of the Marine Environment, Marine  Geography, Sub-Sea world and also  Rowing/Sailing/Kayaking,  Life –Saving techniques  in water  and also  application of  First  Aid.

During  the  period  under  report.,  the following  number of course were held.

A . iii)   Kayaking  in Tidal Water

 

              The   training  course  is  the  first   requisite  to   train  students  who  would  like   to   undertake   river and coastal  expedition.  It   aims   at  to popularize Kayaking as sports    and  adventure  in river and coastal regions.  Practical  training  is also given  on various kayaks  handling,  rescue  technique,  river navigation  and   tide/current  calculation.

              During   the  period  under report, 24 days training  has been  imparted  to  the trainees in  2  batches  as  follows   :-

  •  Batch No.  01    -  The  training  was held  from 14  May,  2013     to   29  June,  2013)                     ( The  number of  trainees  was  10)

  •  Batch  No. 02     -  The  training  was  held  from  5  November,  2013        to   24  December, 2013)

    C.   Workshop  & Audio-Visual  presentation  :

Various   Seminars  &  Workshops  with  Audio-visual presentation  were held  during  the year   under report.

The  aim was  to bring awareness about the marine world, – flora, fauna, marine pollution, water sports  and  water adventure.  Such presentations  were  of  great success.  The   participants   were  students of college and  university.   The   youth   took   keen   interest  in  this  regard.  There were  also  interaction sessions.   Faculty  of   the  Institute, Expert in   Wild  Life   Management and Snake Bite  Management,  associated  with the  Institute  and also  a Yoga  Trainer  having  international  fame   delivered  speech  and  gave  suitable demonstrations.

 Apart from speeches,   there  was  pictorial  presentation  of various  river and sea  based  training as   well  as   expeditions,   Rowing &  Sailing,   Kayaking,  Rafting  and   High Altitude  Trekking.  Beside these,  life  saving  in water  was an interesting item  which was quite  educative and which was enjoyed  by  the students  very much.
