disaster

SEI offers a course on Disaster Management (Marine) dealing with Life Saving & Rescue Operation, a two-part, 8-week training programme, meant to impart life saving skills to trainees:

  • PART–I:  Life Saving and Rescue Operation in Surface Water
  • PART-II: LIFE—Saving and Salvage in Underwater

Scroll down for full course descriptions.

The havoc wreaked by the recent Tsunami has made all of us sit up and take notice of the ruthlessness of marine disasters and the largescale rescue and salvage operations they necessarily entail. Add to this , recurrent calamities like floods and erosion of riverbanks and other marine accidents like drowning, collapse of jetties, capsizing of boats, steamers and ships, and so on. And what you get is burgeoning proof of the enormous and growing need of professionals trained for life Saving and rescue operations in the water.

Hi, would you’ll be interested in having a branch office in the Andaman and Nicobar islands? I’m a local (brought up here) and i’m currently on the Kayak State team. I’m based out of Port Blair (the capital city).

If you do wish to open probably a training centre of some sort here what sort of training would I require? Also, the coastline and marine life is little explored or researched here, so, how do i go about doing a reseach project? Or training course? Are these free of cost? Will i get paid to do a research project?

I’m a 24-year old former journalist – wrote for Tehelka on Environment and Human Rights issues, know swimming, kayaking and run for anything between 9-13 km a day. I also just bought myself two touring Kayaks and own waterfront property. Though two friends of mine are marine biologists, paid to research, I do NOT have a background in Science. I only have a Degree in Bachelor’s in Mass Media (Journalism). Am i eligible?

Thank you and have a nice day.
